[FoME] Call for experts - Short-term assignments on regional COVID-19 information landscapes

Dear media development community,


as part of the initiative “Transparency and media freedom – Crisis resilience in the global pandemic”, DW Akademie is contracting 15 regional experts in the fields of journalism, health communication and media development to provide insights into the information landscape during the Covid-19 crisis in five different regions (three experts per region).


The regions include:

  *   Middle East and North Africa (MENA) (working language: Arabic)

  *   South America (focus: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia; working language: Spanish)

  *   South Asia (focus: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh; working language: English)

  *   Eastern Europe (focus: Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia; working language: English)

  *   East Africa (focus: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania; working language: English)

The scope of work is four days (eight hours each). The entire work can be done from home.

The working tasks include:

  *   participating in an introductory briefing (2 h)

  *   taking part in a written survey about the information landscape during the Covid-19 crisis in the region of expertise (workload: 2 h)

  *   drafting a short report about the information landscape during the Covid-19 crisis in the region of expertise (about 2-5 pages) (workload: 8 h).

  *   participating in a public online panel to discuss the information landscape during the Covid-19 crisis in the region of expertise (workload: 2 h + 6 h preparation)

  *   participating in an info session on DW Akademie’s projects that seek to improve the information landscape during the Covid-19 crisis in the region of expertise (workload: 2 h + 2 h preparation)

  *   participating in a non-public online panel to discuss DW Akademie’s projects that seek to improve the information landscape during the Covid-19 crisis in the region of expertise (workload: 2 h + 6 h preparation)


Professional expertise and corresponding language skills are required. Preference will be given to experts living in the region under investigation. Interested, qualified persons are kindly requested to send in their CV documenting their expertise and a short motivation note (no more than 300 words) including a renumeration proposal (max. 1,620 Euro in total) to dennis.reineck at dw.com<mailto:dennis.reineck at dw.com> with roja.zaitoonie at dw.com<mailto:roja.zaitoonie at dw.com> in cc. Deadline for the applications is November 26, 2021. 


Contractors will be selected by December 3, 2021. The panels and the info session will take place in December/January (MENA and South Asia) and January/February/March 2022 (South America, Eastern Europe, East Africa). The report and the survey should be finalized ahead of the respective panels.
