In Turkey, every single day journalists are intimidated, harassed and 
persecuted, just for doing their job. Very often, pre-trial detention 
does not lead to any charges but still lasts for months. In the courts, 
the evidence is often quite bizarre. Names like Deniz Yücel, Asli 
Erdoğan and Ahmet Şık represent this frontal attack on press and media 
freedom in Turkey. There are over one hundred more journalists and 
writers whose fate is less well-known.

Under the patronage of Rebecca Harms, MEP of the German Green Party, the 
P24 organisation, which supports independent journalism in Turkey, has 
created an exhibition to shed light on journalists facing persecution 
and to make their stories public.

The exhibition "Expression Interrupted!" went public for the first time 
in 2017 at the European Parliament in Brussels. On the occasion of the 
*Leipzig Book Fair 2018* the European Centre for Press and Media 
Freedom brings it to Leipzig with the support of Rebecca Harms MEP and 
the local daily newspaper Leipziger Volkszeitung (LVZ).

/The opening event will be in German (with an English translation). The 
exhibition will be open all throughout the Leipzig Book Fair and beyond 
that until the end of March in the LVZ foyer (Monday to Friday 8am to 
6pm). Free entry.
