The Catamaran
Since 2016 the online magazine the-catamaran.org
<http://the-catamaran.org/> has brought together journalists from all
parts of Sri Lanka focusing on reconciliation issues. At network of more
than 70 journalists publishes weekly stories in Sinhalese, Tamil, and
English, which have been republished by many relevant Sri Lankan newspapers.

Do you understand me? is the overall topic of the first The Catamaran
newspaper. Language is the key to understanding, especially in Sri
Lanka, where seven languages are spoken. Around 50 journalists across
the island nation have spent nearly a year of extensive research on the
topic of language, held interviews, ran into language barriers and found
commonalities and new approaches to language. More than 20,000 copies of
The Catamaran language edition have been printed and distributed, free
of charge, in all parts of Sri Lanka.

Now the first trilingual Sri Lankan newspaper is also available in
Berlin. To celebrate this we will launch The Catamaran at Spike Berlin
on Thursday, November 30th. The Catamaran is a project run by the Berlin
based organization, MiCT (Media in Cooperation and Transition), together
with the Sri Lanka Press Institute / Press Complaints Commission and the
Media Resource and Training Centre at the University of Jaffna. The
project is funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry
for Economic Cooperation and Development.
