This is the last time we will be bugging you with our conference reminder. But for sure it's important:

We would like to cordially invite you to Leipzig on June 13-14, to debate with us the damage on public discourse in the age of fake-news, hate speech and loss of media-credibility. And to talk about solutions.

ECPMF Conference „Defending the truth in a post-truth era”
Tue-Wed, June 13-14, 2017, 2pm-2pm
Salles de Pologne, Hainstr. 16, Leipzig, Germany

To kick off the conference there is a debate with the former German MP and publicist Vera Lengsfeld on the so called Lügenpresse (lying press) — the subject of a two year investigation by ECPMF researchers.

Amongst others a leading Lithuanian journalist will present "elves vs trolls", a successful initiative against Russian propaganda. Also taking part is Hoaxmap, Germany’s best-known platform for spotting false rumours about migrants and refugees. And James Harkin, from the Centre for Investigative Journalism in London, presents his research on fake news from the war zones in Syria.

The European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) unites journalists associations, publishing houses, academic institutions, trade unions and media rights experts to achieve the application of the European Charter on Freedom of the Press throughout Europe. Founded in 2015, it is about to be registered as European Cooperative Society and headquartered in Leipzig with  members/partners/supporters in 16 countries. The ECPMF provides news, analyses and tools on media freedom issues, coordinates its member organisations' activities and helps individual journalists under threat, for example through a residence programme and petitions.
