Reporters Without Borders / Reporters sans Frontières (RSF) is recruiting a deputy director-general in charge of programmes

Reporting to the director-general, you will oversee RSF's programmes department, which has a staff of 25 and consists of three sections - Research and Publication, Institutional Advocacy, and Support for Local Actors and Project Coordination. You will also supervise the work of five RSF bureaux (in London, Taipei, Tunis, Rio de Janeiro and Washington).

Duties:

  *   As a member of RSF's Steering Committee (CODIR) and Executive Committee (COMEX), you will help to define RSF's priorities and will ensure that they are carried out in accordance with the allocated resources.

  *   You will define and promote RSF's strategy of action as regards publication, lobbying, assistance and training. You will act as arbiter of the public positions that RSF takes.

  *   You will design RSF's programmes and supervise their implementation, always taking case to ensure that they are effective and have the desired impact. You will help to draft the programme proposals that are submitted to donors for funding.

  *   You will help to represent RSF in its relations with national and international media, international organizations, governmental officials and private-sector entities.



Your profile:

Male or female, you have a master's degree and at least 10 years of management experience, preferably in the media and/or NGO sector.

You understand the importance of media freedom and independence, and you are fully aware of the threats to which they are exposed internationally.

You understand how an NGO functions and you are able to combine operational and strategic imperatives.

A hands-on manager, you are aware of the importance of developing your staff's skills. You are organized, conscientious and pragmatic, you are comfortable with project management, and you know how to unite people around a common purpose.

Your resourcefulness, teamwork skills and ability to work horizontally across our organization will ensure that you are appreciated as a key partner by the management.

Languages: French and English essential
