Hello Everybody!

MiCT and Ashoka are pleased to invite you to meet the prominent Mexican media activist and Ashoka Fellow Aleida Calleja Gutiérrez to discuss the current
situation of freedom of expression within the media sector in Mexico.

Aleida Calleja Gutiérrez works on reforming Mexico’s media as part of a larger effort to give voice to civil society and empower the Mexican people. By building a strong network of
community radio stations, training and consulting them on digital technology, establishing legal recognition for the stations,
and working to reform public media policy, Aleida hopes to revitalize the rights to information and freedom of speech protected in Mexico’s Constitution.

She is also a member of Observacom (http://observacom.org), an initiative of media experts dealing with legal issues and diversity in the media sector in Latin America.
For more information on Aleida’s work, have a look at:https://www.ashoka.org/fellow/aleida-calleja-gutierrez

The event will be moderated in English and Spanish by Michael Vollmann (Co-Director Ashoka Globalizer) and Pedro Obando (Master of Public Policy). Translation between the two languages will be provided.

We hope that many of you will be able to attend and contribute to the discussions over a beer or a glass of wine.

When: Wednesday, September 17, 2014, 6.30 pm (Please RSVP by September 14, 2014.)

Where: MiCT - Media in Cooperation and Transition, Brunnenstraße 9, 10119 Berlin

We look forward to seeing you!

All the best, Klaas
