Media in Cooperation and Transition (MICT) is seeking an English editor

MICT - Media in Cooperation and Transition is a German media development 
organization that implements projects in the Middle East and Northern 
Africa. Activities focus on the interplay between conflict, media 
coverage and reconciliation in crisis regions. MICT's services comprise 
the training of journalists and media producers, program and content 
development, production of radio programs, films and books, as well as 
media research and monitoring in conflict zones.

Role:
NIQASH.org is a trilingual website (Arabic, English, Kurdish) on 
politics, media and culture in Iraq managed by MICT. Content for the 
Website is delivered by a network of Iraqi correspondents from all parts 
of the country. Translation is provided by MICT. Starting on the 1st of 
January MICT is seeking a British or American journalist (English 
native) as part time editor for articles in English language on 
www.niqash.org. Working place is MICT office in Berlin, working volume 
is approx. three days per week from January 2010 until end of September 
2010.

The tasks of the English editor comprise:

(1) Planning topics for coverage with the editorial team in Berlin
(2) Editorial improvement of English articles with regard to 
journalistic standards
(3) English language editing of these articles
(4) Summaries of each article for the weekly newsletter
(5) Communication with Iraqi correspondents on topics and on quality of 
their articles

Requirements:

Job applicants should
(1)    Be educated and have working experience as print journalist
(2)    Be native English speaker
(3)    Have substantial knowledge about Middle East politics and should 
have worked on this topic as journalist

Applications should also include 2-3 working samples (articles, reports 
on Middle East topics).
