Die International Telecommunication Union (ITU) hat den "World
Information Society Report 2006* veröffentlicht.

"The World Information Society Report" is the first edition in a
series of reports that will monitor the development of the Information
Society worldwide. In particular, this new series will chart progress
towards the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the  
Information Society (WSIS) and WSIS targets. This report has been
prepared in response to the World Summit on the Information Society,  
held in Geneva in 2003 and Tunis in 2005.

This inaugural edition presents the Digital Opportunity Index (DOI) as
a composite index, which was endorsed by WSIS as part of the approved
evaluation methodology. It has been designed to assess progress in
creating digital opoortunity and bridging the digital divide. The DOI
shosw how mobile connectivity is transforming telecommunications in many
developing countries around the world, while broadband and mobile
Internet access continue to grow steadily."
