sans-serif"> <i>9,5 milliards $</i>. C'est le montant sans précédent des réparations que Chevron a été condamné à payer aux victimes de ses activités en Équateur. En 26 ans d'exploitation pétrolière en Amazonie équatorienne, Chevron a souillé<span lang="fr-FR"> plus de <i>450'000 hectares</i> d'une des zones de la planète les plus riches en biodiversité, </span><span lang="fr-FR">détruisant les conditions de vie et de subsistance de ses habitants, </span><span lang="fr-FR">provoquant la mort de centaines de personnes et une augmentation brutale des taux de cancers et autres graves problèmes de santé. On estime qu</span><span lang="fr-FR">e</span><span lang="fr-FR"> plus de 60 milliards de litres d'e</span></font><span style="font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">aux toxiques ont été déversées dans les rivières, 880 fosses de déchets d'hydrocarbures ont été ouvertes, et 650 000 barils de brut ont été abandonnés sur place. </span></div><div align="justify"><font face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif"><span lang="fr-FR"></span><span lang="fr-FR"> Une plainte collective a été déposée en 1993 par 30'000 victimes, d'abord aux États-Unis, puis en Équateur. Et</span><span lang="fr-FR"> </span><span lang="fr-FR">l</span><span lang="fr-FR">a justice leur a donné raison ! </span><span lang="fr-FR">En novembre, de l'année dernière, la plus haute instance juridique d’Équateur a confirmé en appel la condamnation record de la compagnie américaine, pour pollution et atteintes aux peuples d'Amazonie. </span></font><br><font face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif"><span lang="fr-FR"> Mais la bataille judiciaire est loin d'être terminée : </span><span lang="fr-FR"><i>Chevron refuse toujours de payer</i> et porte maintenant l'affaire devant la Cour constitutionnelle d’Équateur et devant des tribunaux d'arbitrage internationaux</span><span lang="fr-FR">. </span></font><small><span lang="fr-FR"><font face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif"><big>L'un de ces arbitrages a déjà permis à Chevron de faire condamner l’État équatorien a lui verser 96 millions de dollars de dommages et intérêts!</big></font></span></small><br></div><small><span lang="fr-FR"></span></small></blockquote><small style="font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';"><span lang="fr-FR"><br></span></small><font style="font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';"><span lang="fr-FR"></span></font><div align="center" style="font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';"><font face="Helvetica, Arial,
