> > Today morning, the 9th September, the forest officials along with
> police have gone to the Bhorda Hamlet of Vadgam village in Gujarat
(Narmada
> > District) to burn down more houses of the adivasi families who have
> gone back from the rehabilitation villages.
> >
> > Earlier on 6th five houses of poor adivasi families were already
> burned down. After that the remaining families were told that they need to
> get out within 4 days and if not, their houses also will be burned down.
> The returnees of Gadher village (more than 60 families) were also warned
> > likewise.
> >
> > The Rajpipla collectors office informed that if the families have
> accepted land in the R&R sites, they will have to be removed from the
original
> > villages! The PAFs are in a spot because they have left the R&R site
> at Malu precisely because the land was of very poor quality. Moreover
> their sons have now married and have two to three children and all cannot
> > survive with what is given as compensation.
> > Now, where will they go?
> >
> > Moreover, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who earlier desisted, now
> seems to have agreed to inaugurate the canal head power house, falling
under
> > pressure. He is expected either tomorrow the 10th September or within
> a week. The news is not yet leaked to the News papers but the
> construction of the helipad at the dam site is going fast. If he comes, he
also
> will become responsible for all the brutalities happening in the name of
> the Dam as his endorsement will be a good cover for hiding the suffering
> of those who are affected by this project and are facing destitution.
> >
> > Please urgently contact the Prime Minister, the State Minister for
> > Railways Shri Naranbhai J Rathawa, who hails from the Chotta Udaipur
> > constituency in Gujarat under which come the affected villages in
> Gujarat and the Narmada District Collector at Rajpipla.
> >
> > Please request them to stop this forced and brutal eviction by burning
> > down houses and ensure livelihood security for the families targeted.
